Scientific Method, a poem

Now, you are a labeled specimen
Preserved in a glass jar
Floating in Miller Lite.

Now, every time I look at the shelf
There's the jar right where I put it.
No more shenanigans.

Now, I can walk past the shelf
And not even be distracted.
Not even lose my train of thought.

Now, you are retired from the experiment.
Now, your actions and reactions
Are not being studied, recorded.

Now, the book on this subject
Is shelved in Reference.
No surprises in there. No updates.

A spell to Tend the Acute Phase of a Broken Heart

Prepare:
Put away your own stories.
Clear other tasks until finished.
Do not prod. Offer companionship.
Offer water and small bites of fruit.
Offer blankets and pillows.
Be kind but not solicitous.
Invite eager ancestors, spirits, etc.

Begin:
Ease the Wounded into a restful position.
Touch with steady hands- think warm blocks of wood.
Rub, sooth, press, sort of tickle- move energy out of limbs,
back of body, feet, face, and scalp to reduce agitation.
Do this until both your body and the Wounded are the same.
Steady your hands in two places that need support.
I like right hand pressing into the back, and left hand
pressing into the the soles of the feet as a floor.
If you need to change positions keep at least
one hand in place with steady pressure.

Start (after beginning):
Envision a white petaled flower
sitting atop the Wounded One's head.
The petals open- a portal for peace,
healing, comfort, solace.
The petals collect moisture from the air
like dew. It drips toward the center of the
the flower and glides down
sliding to coat the inside of the
skull. Soothing whites and blues.
Sliding down dripping down gliding down slowly
to the burning red hot embers of the
core of the scorched Heart.
Hear the hiss, the release of heat.
Drip drop slide ttttssssssss. Drip drip ttttssssss.
Until the red embers are soaked and
quiet.
Perhaps they are asleep. They are now
passed the acute injury.
This is not because of you, but
because of the flower.

Finish:
Offer thanks and gratitude to all
ancestors and the flower and the water
and the embers and remove yourself.
