Things, a poem

Move things.
Place things. Put things.
Slide things. Clean things.
Arrange things.
Create things.
Admire things. Admonish things.
Break things.
Recycle things. Throw things.
Collect things.
Lift things. Weigh things.
Drop things.
Kick things. Grab things.
Replace things. Caress things.
Protect things.
Repair things. Lose things.
Forget things. Eat things.
Drink things.
Hold things. Burn things.
Blow things. Explore things.
Decide things.
Keep the breath moving steadily throughout.

And pray, a poem

I lost her and it hurt so watch out
She slipped through my arms
alone and away
under a quarantine she never understood
so watch out
cause when she couldn't remember
who god was
she would hold her rosary and pray
shannon loves me
shannon loves me
shannon loves me
and now she's gone
and now I can't remember
how to dim myself

Goddess willing, a poem

There will be another time when you hear
     a very loud
sound too close to your ear
There will be another time when you are bit
There will be another time when you find yourself crying
a time when an itch gets itchier and itchier and itchier
a time when there is such a close call
a time when the truth stings
a time when you want to help a stranger's child
a time when you drink yourself sick and spinning
a time when something irreplaceable is lost
a time when you should not have said what you said
a time when you feel jealous and you thought you were past all that
a time when you wonder- is this what people mean when they say
     they felt a ghost
a time when you are surprised by your period like a teenager
a time when you promise to be there and forget
a time when you have to start all over again
a time when you step in it
a time when you glance yourself in the mirror
     and see your self
a time when, remembering your death,
you stop in your tracks
catch your breath
and release it again

For U. Al, a poem

Now let us pause for the
passing of the last of
our grandfathers.
Let us breathe the
same air
and apprecxiate
What it is to Live.
Let us extend
a wish a prayer
for his spirit
to be received warmly.
Let him sense
a calm
like a smile and
a feeling like
wanting to dance.
Let his brilliant blue eyes sparkle
like the moment they opened to
the world.
Let him know
he was our Grandfather.
Let him know
he was a Father.
And one of the few
Decent and Honest Men
I encountered as a child.
Let the horseshoes
     be quiet today.
Let the newspaper
     sit folded.
As we step aside
as he walks to his rest.
Stand tall in his name.
A gentle goodbye
     to the last of our
     grandfathers.

A spell to Tend the Acute Phase of a Broken Heart

Prepare:
Put away your own stories.
Clear other tasks until finished.
Do not prod. Offer companionship.
Offer water and small bites of fruit.
Offer blankets and pillows.
Be kind but not solicitous.
Invite eager ancestors, spirits, etc.

Begin:
Ease the Wounded into a restful position.
Touch with steady hands- think warm blocks of wood.
Rub, sooth, press, sort of tickle- move energy out of limbs,
back of body, feet, face, and scalp to reduce agitation.
Do this until both your body and the Wounded are the same.
Steady your hands in two places that need support.
I like right hand pressing into the back, and left hand
pressing into the the soles of the feet as a floor.
If you need to change positions keep at least
one hand in place with steady pressure.

Start (after beginning):
Envision a white petaled flower
sitting atop the Wounded One's head.
The petals open- a portal for peace,
healing, comfort, solace.
The petals collect moisture from the air
like dew. It drips toward the center of the
the flower and glides down
sliding to coat the inside of the
skull. Soothing whites and blues.
Sliding down dripping down gliding down slowly
to the burning red hot embers of the
core of the scorched Heart.
Hear the hiss, the release of heat.
Drip drop slide ttttssssssss. Drip drip ttttssssss.
Until the red embers are soaked and
quiet.
Perhaps they are asleep. They are now
passed the acute injury.
This is not because of you, but
because of the flower.

Finish:
Offer thanks and gratitude to all
ancestors and the flower and the water
and the embers and remove yourself.
